Hemithyroidectomy
Surgical removal of one lobe of thryroid gland is known as hemithyroidectomy. This surgical procedure is indicated in patients with:
1. Single nodule involving a lobe of thyroid gland
2. Cystic lesions involving a lobe of thyroid gland
3. Benign tumors involving a lobe of thyroid gland
This surgical procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Injury to recurrent laryngeal nerve should be avoided while mobilising the lower pedicle.
